I “met” David Heyman on twitter in 2014 when we were both preparing for the Philadelphia half marathon. His twitter feed is one of my favorites & is full of insights on what’s happening in Washington, DC – everything from sports, to politics, to the metro system. He also tracks how long it takes media outlets to report breaking news, shares travel tips, and (of course) has running-related content!

When did you begin running and why? While I ran my first 10K in 1984, for years I had been running 3 miles a day and the occasional 10K. Through a previous job, I came in contact with running librarians (really!), and they encouraged me to take up longer distances. I ran my first half marathon in 2011 and have now run 10.

What is your proudest running moment? Finishing my first half-marathon (Hershey). I was 49 years old, had a goal of 2:10 and finished in 2:01:44.

Have you run the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run before? If yes, how many times? The CUCB in 2011 was the first time I had ever run 10 miles in my life. The 2016 race will be my 5th time.

What is your “why” for running the 2016 the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run? CUCB is my favorite race. For sentimental reasons, like it was my first double digit mile race. And because I’m a native Washingtonian, there is no better time to be in DC than for the Cherry Blossoms.

What is your goal for the 2016 Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run? I always have a primary and secondary goal for every race. The primary goal is to finish. The secondary goal is to run the whole way. The time, I don’t care so much about.

Do you have a running mantra? What is it and what does it mean to you? “Run!” I have it on my sports watch. Anytime I am either doing well or poorly on a run, it reminds me that I am doing something I enjoy, so just Run!

If you could use only one word to express what running means to you, what would it be? Accomplishment

What is your favorite New Balance running gear or accessory? I’ve been running with New Balance 840v3 shoes for the last 6 months. This will be my 4th 10+ mile race with them!

What is an interesting fact you learned about Children’s Miracle Network HospitalsSince 2002, CUCB has raised over $7 million for the Children’s Miracle Network
