Giving Tuesday for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals

Tuesday, November 29, 2016, is #GivingTuesday, and Elizabeth is sharing one of the many reasons why she understands how important it is to support Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals through the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run and Credit Unions for Kids. If you agree that all children should have access to the healthcare they need without regard to ability to pay, you can donate here too!

Running can HURT kids!

Yes, I’m trying to get your attention. But it’s also true.

We need a helping hand …

A few weeks ago my son was running full speed down our street to get to his friend’s house when he tripped and fell. I found him laying  in the middle of the street, sobbing. He had cut his knee, his elbow, his hip, and we learned eventually he had broken a bone in his wrist.

He’s not hurt bad and doesn’t even need a cast, but It’s hard when your kid is hurt. Navigating the emergency health care visit and finding out late at night that his x-ray was slightly misread, and finding an orthopedist who could see us the next day was hard. Changing my work schedule with no notice and driving an hour to see the only orthopedist available was hard.

But lots of families have it harder. And this is where running can HELP kids…by helping Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

Every year, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals provide state-of-the-art care, cutting edge research and preventative health education, and treat children for every disease and injury imaginable – regardless of their ability to pay.

And every year, runners of the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run dedicate themselves to raising money for these families. Last year, 160 fundraisers raised $62,130.79  for 170 Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals across the United States and Canada, which, in turn, use the money where it’s needed the most. These donations have gone to support research and training, purchase equipment, and pay for uncompensated care, all to save and improve the lives of as many children as possible.
